I will be getting my brand new 11" MBA today and am anxious to start using it immediately.

Anytime I got a new Mac, transferring settings from the machine I currently use was a snap: just connect the two macs using Firewire and the new MAC becomes a clone of your current MAC.

How is this done on the MBA, since there is no FW port? Is it at all possible?

I certainly hope so.
Reinstalling all software puts me back into the dreaded Windows days.

Another question:
Does the battery need to be charged for a few hours before i can start using it?

If you have an external HDD, use carbon copy cloner to clone your old Mac, and the attach the HDD to the new MBA. If you know what you are doing, you could also take the HDD out from the old Mac and put it in an enclosure.

Alternately, you could buy an USB ethernet adapter, and connect the two Mac over ethernet cable.

ethernet adapter

The ethernet adapter seems like a viable solution.
I do not want to clone only my documents and software; I also want all the passwords, browsing history and such.
Just like I used to do on all the other Macs I bought, by using the FW cord.

So, if I connect the USB Ethernet Adapter, will my new MBA be able to see the old Macbook and transfer all settings as I wish?

Thanks

You will be able to copy EVERYTHING, including your password and settings, over using any one of the 3 methods I suggested.
