Once the HD had been installed, what will happen when the MacBook is turned on? Will i have to boot from the OS X disc seeing as the HD will be blank?

you will need to start from the macosx cd then ude disk utility to format your newly installed hdd, then install tiger on it :D

Just so you know (I took me a bit to realize this) you format the disk by erasing it. There is no option to "format".
