Do I restore update to 3.1.2 and then pwn? Or do I update to 3.1.2 when already pwned? And the dev team said i should not enter DFU mode, why? How else could i create my ipsw?

If you care about being able to unlock your phone, then don't update to 3.1.2 in iTunes, if not, then go ahead and update your phone. And then use pwnage tool. 3.1.4 to make a custom IPSW for your phone. Pwnage now automatically puts your phone into the correct mode for you so the process is simpler.

For all we know, the OP might have done a stock upgrade to 3.1 and already has baseband 05.11.07.
Either way, why not just do it in one step - using Pwnage Tool to update to 3.1.2?

OP - since your iPhone is Pwned, you enter Recovery Mode and not DFU Mode. Either way, you do this after
you create the custom IPSW - not before or during.

Question on to this one:
I have an .ipsw file that I've downloaded off the internet, and used that with PwnageTool to create a custom .ipsw file on my iMac OS X.
So does this mean that when I plug my iPhone 3G (already jailbroken and unlocked, I am running 2.2 with baseband 02.28.00), click (option+restore) and choose the custom .ipsw file, it will restore to that file, and keep my baseband of 02.28.00? I'm just sketchy on doing this because I don't know if the baseband will go up and from what everybody is saying, 5.11.07 is unlockable.

And since my phone is already jailbroken and unlocked (carrier is T-mobile), Dev team says I do not have to enter DFU mode, so all I would have to do is restore and afterwards just ultrasn0w the link for the unlock?

btw, 1st time trying to jailbreak by myself, so I'd really appreciate any help.

p.s.: what's the deal with the 16xx errors that come with these? I've read about some but I don't know exactly what they are and what iReb is and how it coincides with it.

Thanks!
