Question about VisualHub..

I've been using Mactheripper and Handbrake for my DVD's.

I've been using VisualHub to convert .avi files for those DVDs that I had already backed up from when I was using my Xbox 360 as a media center prior to ATV purchase and it works well.

My question is what is the best way to convert TV shows for the ATV?

Right now they are in .avi or .mkv.

If I convert in VisualHub and use the "Join files" option will that create the mp4 with chapters? I really would like to not have 10-15 episodes for each season separate.

Turbo.264

I use Elgato's Turbo.264 software. It has a hardware USB dongle that speeds up all of the conversion. It takes AVI, MPEG, QT, AVCHD and spits out iphone, ipod, appleTV, and youtube.

I've found VisualHub to be great, but Turbo.264 works a little faster.

How many TV shows do you want to "join" together? If I recall, the ATV has a ~4GB file size limit.

Not actually. 32 bit mp4's (which is the native atv file format) have a 4gb file size limit. You can put 64 bit > 4 GB mp4's on the atv all day long and it will play them great. This is what HandBrake uses for its ATV preset. I have no clue whatsoever if VH can produce 64 bit mp4's or if it can, how you do it.

I kind of have a related question: I plan to use Visualhub under the iTunes "All Devices" setting to convert my files for ipod classic, iphone, and eventually Apple TV when I get one soon. Do I NEED to use the h.264 setting since that mode shrinks the video to fit 640 x 480 anyway? The only difference I notice in picture quality is that the h.264 version is visibly "smoothed out" whereas the regular version resembles the source file more.
