I was just wondering if anyone else noticed that when waking from sleep, the MBP tends to have a extended delay in transitioning from black to on. I would say it is about 5 seconds. The only reason I find this odd is that my old PowerBook was at most about 1.5 seconds until it turned the screen on and with the LED addition one would think the responsiveness to displaying an image would be much quicker.

It's not the end of the world and I really am not looking to make a "is your MBP yellow thread" but just trying to get a better idea if this is common or if not that it might be something I need to look into.

Yes, mine is the same way. It'll take roughly five seconds give or a take a second to wake up from sleep. I do notice that sometimes my mouse cursor does not move despite me moving my mouse. It'll stay frozen for a couple of seconds then it'll move.

Maybe that's because you've enabled the 'ignore unintended input' option in the Control Panel?

As I understand it the MBPs sleep quite differently from the old PowerBooks. The default behaviour is for the contents of memory to be written to disk (on the MBPs that is) so it can take a few seconds longer when putting a MBP to sleep compared to the almost instantaneous sleep mode of the PowerBooks, which didn't do this write-to-disk stuff. Subsequently it takes longer to 'wake' from sleep. I guess it might even depend on how many apps were running etc when you put it to sleep.

Yes, mine takes about 4 or 5 seconds for the screen to come back up when waking---but only when the following two conditions have been met:

(1) The laptop is running on battery power,
(2) The MBP put itself to sleep after the inactivity timeout.

When plugged into the mains, the screen wakes instantly, regardless of how the MBP went to sleep (manual or automatic). When on battery power, it will come up instantly if I was the one that put it to sleep manually, whereas the delay is there if it timed out and went to sleep on its own.

wait i was with you up until the end, i don't follow why taking longer for it to sleep would subsequently cause a longer wake time, i just don't see the causal link??
