Question: Best Buy and 3G iPad?

Um, what? I assume the BB's that have Apple 'areas' will have the 3G's. I don't know where AT&T comes into this..

Because AT&T is providing the 3G in the US, genius. AT&T would be higher on the food chain when it comes to a 3G device just as the iPhone was in AT&T stores long before BestBuy got a chance to sell them. They're providing the network, odds are they're going to get priority treatment.
Considering how tight the WiFi distribution supply was supposed to have been at launch (although it seems grossly exaggerated when it comes to the "15 per store"), I would think Apple and AT&T will get most of the first round stock. That's a lot of AT&T stores to supply.
It would be strange for them to have the wifi on launch and not the 3G. You can bank on them having 3G at launch too.
You're bumming me out. I have $125 in Best Buy gift cards and $60 in rewards that are expiring in June. Oh well, I guess I could buy some iTunes cards with the rewards.
im sure they will be. I dont think the 3g launch is going to be a big deal. ill be surprised if they sell 1/10th of what the wifi models sold.
The iPad is not a cellphone. I don't think AT&T has plans to carry them at all since the contract is ad hoc anyways.

This is true, nobody has officially said one way or the other, and trust me, as soon as it is official, we would be getting booklets on how to offer blah blah blah with the iblah iblah iblah.
Well, you get the point, Best Buy loves Apple, but they haven't said anything yet.
I've been informed that they will be in Best Buy, but not AT&T stores. Since they do not have cell phone capabilities, they will not be sold there.
Apple's press release from yesterday said BestBuy explicitly:
Although the "most BestBuy stores" is a little shaky. I don't have a BestBuy within 100 miles of me that carries the iPad.
Not all BBuy stores carry Apple products. Usually it's a factor of how close there is an Apple store to the Best Buy store.
Here in Atlanta, some have an apple section, some don't. For instance, the BBuy right next to Mall of Ga (which has an Apple Store) doesn't have an apple section. The Duluth, GA store DOES have an apple section.
I was hoping that the ticket would be good for 24 hours but it probably isn't so my plan is to go over around noon and get my ticket then come back at 5pm to pick it up. I'm not expecting the crowds that were there for the intro but I think I should be careful not to wait too long as I have no idea of the inventory available. I hope to just be able to pick it up quick and move on to my dinner plans.
I will be checking for news here during the morning of course. It will be an exciting day after this long wait.

My instincts say to be conservative and just get what I need to use it for a web browser, movie player and apps. I'm thinking I probably will want Gen 2 in a year so I might as well spend the $100 on a nice case that I can keep and not on 16 GB.

What's the advantage of getting it from Apple?
From Best Buy it costs the same, plus you get their rewards points which are good for gift cards and for working toward Silver status.
+1 There isn't any other Apple store in my area. The price is the same and the rewards points can be used on a screen protector or case.
Apple will likely have more stock, plus they'll get you in and out pretty quickly. Apple's customer service > Best Buy's.
I'm not at all convinced that that it true. Maybe they'll eventually sell them when supplies are less constrained, but I'm inclined to doubt they'll have them at the outset. We'll know pretty soon, though.
I've had some pretty bad experiences and some pretty good experiences with Apple Store customer service. They're great when you find them. But I've sometimes spent way too long standing around trying to figure out how to get someone to help me, including when I knew exactly what I wanted to buy and they just had to hand me the item and ring me up.
Best Buy is run of the mill big box customer service.
I'll probably buy at the first location where what I want is in stock and someone speaks to me without me chasing them and wrestling them to the ground.
