I have AT&T with good credit, my mom just joined Verizon with bad credit and she needs a phone. They won't approve her for the device payment and I know Best Buy does universal phones. Would I be able to do an upgrade on my AT&T account on BestBuy.com and get sent the phone via mail and just pop her Verizon sim since I here it'll lock on the first provider with SIM card.

Will that work?

Pretty sure if she tries to pop her SIM card in the AT&T iPhone it’ll say “Sim card not supported” until the AT&T iPhone is unlocked that CDMA Verizon nano sim will not work in it.

I have a straight talk nano sim “Verizon service” CDMA. I purchased a brand new iPhone 7 128GB AT&T model on eBay, never used, and never even activated before.

I inserted my straight talk Verizon service sim, and I couldn’t setup the iPhone at all.

I went through the AT&T unlock portal, and AT&T unlocked my iPhone 7 in minutes. My device was new, and paid for though. Immediately after it was unlocked from AT&T, I could use the Straight talk Verizon sim inside my new iPhone 7 128’gigger!

Hope this helps.. I too have AT&T with good credit. Me and my wife just ordered some new phones from them, and they’ll be here Tomorrow!

Why not just port your moms number to your AT&T account?

Actually buying a phone at Best Buy or Best Buy.com, they actually sell the sim-free unlocked model. But because of the "Apple Retail Flex policy", Once you insert the SIM card of that carrier, it will be locked to that carrier, even if you purchased full price. You will need to contact the carrier to request an unlock. In the past if you activate it with the Verizon SIM card, it will remain unlocked. I believe that is still the case, I'm not sure. I know that Verizon has this new policy where they must sell them locked and can be unlocked after purchase or something.

I'm sure Walmart and Target also follow this Apple Retail Flex policy.

So if I want to use Verizon I can just simply place my Verizon and keep it in there? Will I have any issues trading it in on the next plan when it comes time to next yeae?

As long as it's unlocked and you inserted the Verizon sim first, you can continue to use it on Verizon. And no you should not have any issue trading it in next year.
