Can someone run Flurry the screen saver and look for a horizontal line. It sorta travels up/down. I want to see if its just the screensaver or if the display is messed up..

Well i think you may be on to something mines doing it, however my powermac G4 does it aswell, but i've noticed in halo sometime the screen will split in half, when i move fast, but it's only for a split second

That's NOT true..

Flurry SUFFERS from screen tearing on the imac. Everybody knows that. You just haven't noticed it yet.

Every newer imac i have seen flurry on, displays vertical screentearing. (the ones (6-7) at work, and also the 3 intel imac's i have unpacked the last month. + My friends imacs.. So please! don't try to fool anyone that your computer is unique.

What you also will notice is that every G5/intel imac has brighter corners when flurry is on, when seen in a dark room. It's not the computers fault. It's just a buggy screensaver, even thou it's nice to look at!

My dual 1.8G5 does this with my 2005FPW

so it isn't just you, or just C2D owners.

good i'm glad i'm not the only one. I think its just the charateristic of the screensaver

Just noticed my new iMac C2D had that... happened every couple seconds.

I don't think is an issue.

Yeah it is, my ibbok does it, my powermac does it and so does our C2D imac, so it's just th screensaver

I always forget how hypnotising that screensaver is. I just spent quite a long time staring in amazement.

And yes, it does happen on my C2D iMac, but not very often.

Can someone take a photo of screen tearing so we can see what it is all about? Also the bright corners, could that just be uneven backlighting rather than a fault with flurry?

Yeah just checked, happens of my new C2D aswell, hardly noticable though, probably why I haven't questioned it on any of my previous G5 iMacs

thankss for looking, i was checking to see if could see any dead pixels so i thought i would run flurry and i notice this line, but no where else...

Actually, its the screen.

The reason (iirc) it tears is because the screensaver is running at a higher framerate than the monitor (Usually 60hz, which means it refreshes the image on the screen 60 times a second, although with TFT's it doesn't, but i'm not going into that.) can handle.

So, if the graphics card is pumping out flurry at say 70fps, there will be a point where the screen is refreshing when the graphics card is half way through rendering a frame, then you'll only get half of the frame displayed, and half of the next one, which gives you a tearing effect.

Most games have a V-Sync function which won't let the graphics card render over 60fps (Or whatever the refresh rate of your monitor is set at).

So, yeah. There is nothing wrong with your machine, infact its a good thing that its doing that.

Looks ugly though.

Is a TFT display different to an LCD ? or am i getting confused

I'm not sure, but as far as most people are conserned, they're the same.

I know that TFT stands for Thin Film Transistor, and LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. I always thought a flat lanel monitor used TFT technology where as those little screens in digital watches used LCD technology. Although, I think the way TFT's work is basically the same as the way a LCD works.
