I currently have an iPhone 7 and had a 6S prior to that, and am very happy and comfortable with the relative footprint and size of the phone.

However, I use my phone, a lot, to where I'm constantly using up my battery and worrying about whether or not my phone will make it through the day, and I'm talking about right out of the box battery at 100% capacity.

So, given that I use my phone as much as I do and battery life is a significant concern, it occurred to me that the Plus versions really accommodate both of these needs well. You get much more screen real estate, presumably giving you a better user experience, and obviously a much bigger battery that should get anyone through the day.

I will be upgrading to the iPhone X here in the next few weeks, and I have just started contemplating whether or not I should go for the for the 6.5" (Max) version versus the current 5.7".

Finally my question, for those current Plus owners, have you found the size and footprint of the phone to be too unwieldy and big when carrying around in shorts and jeans pockets? Obviously I like the idea and thought of using a larger phone, but I'm not sure if it's just a royal pain in the rear to haul that big thing around. I've grabbed the Plus phone in stores, but obviously have never had the opportunity to carry one for any period of time to know, so I'm curious what you current Plus owners have found, good, bad, or ugly.

I've been wanting to upgrade to a Plus iPhone (or the 6" LCD one this upcoming September) from my 6S since the Plus phones seem to get better spec (more RAM, obviously larger battery, dual camera, etc).

Although I don't have a Plus iPhone, I do have the Xiaomi Mi Max. Watching videos and playing games are definitely more enjoyable on the huge screen (I don't understand why many mobile games use ultra tiny fonts. It's like they were designed for PC gamers in mind). The annoying thing is when I am on the go and need to put it in a convenient place (ie. my pocket). If you always carry your phone in your hand, or drive a car, the size imo won't be an issue though.

I had the 6+ and the 7S+ and currently have a X. Personally, I don't mind the minor inconvenience of a large phone in my pocket to get the added benefit of a larger screen and bigger battery. I'm 6'4" and 220 lbs. My wife, who is 5'4" and 120 hates the + versions. She doesn't carry a purse that often and pockets her phones too. The X is the perfect size for her.

Order a case for a 7 or 8 + off Amazon. Stick it in your pocket and carry it around the house to see how it feels. After a couple of days return it and in that time hopefully you'll have figured out what a larger phone will feel like in your pocket.

I upgraded from a 8 plus to X. I found the size of the X to be a better fit for me than the 8 plus. At times, the 8 plus was too big for my pockets.

Yeah, this is what I'm afraid of. Loving the larger screen and battery while I'm using it, and then hating it anytime I have to put the thing in my pocket.

The other factor to consider this year is that rumors indicate there won't be any hardware difference in the larger X version other than the larger capacity battery (no better camera, more ram, etc.).

The X's screen quality is superior to the 8 plus. Regarding battery....I have not noticed any significant trade off with the X.

I went from the 5s to the 7+ and now the 8+. I'll never look back. Love the size, love the battery life. You learn to deal with how to carry it. You can always get a belt clip I suppose.

And then you come in with this making me pine for the 6.5" X again, lol. That said, not sure I could go with the belt clip. It's going to be pocket or nothing.

I got used to the plus size in less than 5 minutes. I went from an iPhone 5 to a 6+.

No problem with pockets. But generally I wear cargo pants so the phone goes in a back or side pocket.

I purchased the Plus when it first came out and haven’t even thought about going back to a smaller phone. However, I’ve always used very slim cases so not add extra bulk. The extra real estate is well worth the bigger phone.

I’m actually looking forward to a Plus version of the X - hopefully to be announced next week.

I have a 6S Plus, been using for around three years - I cannot wait to get a standard sized XS. The plus sized phones are too big for day to day use.

I carry mine in a pocket. I wear a suit at work so the inside breast pocket is perfectly sized, but I carry in my shorts or jeans pocket with no problem.

I’ve had a Plus for two years (first a 7 Plus, then an 8 Plus) and intend to upgrade to the 5.8” iPhone Xs. All of the form factors have pros and cons but for me personally, the cons of the Plus are starting to outweigh the advantages. The main issue i’m having is the weight of the device and the strain it’s putting on my right wrist - much more noticeable with the 8 Plus. I’ve also lost weight recently and new clothes have smaller pockets which has made the size more noticeable.

The difference in battery life isn’t significant enough to influence my decision.

I had the 6 Plus when it came out and I've been using the 7 Plus since it came out. The size has really been a non-issue for me all this time. It fits in anything I wear, including basketball shorts. Obviously it does feel a little bigger in your pocket but it's really not an issue.

On the battery life, from general experience my phone has typically outlasted my friends with normal sized iPhones. I couldn't give exact times and things, but it does seem to last noticeably longer. The screen is the obvious benefit, it's just more comfortable viewing/using imo.

My only regret after moving to an 8 Plus after using a regular sized 6 for three years is that I wish I had gone with the plus size all along! Within a day the Plus size just felt normal to me and every other iPhone now feels too small.

I've had a Plus sized iPhone since the 6 Plus with the exception being the X. I can't wait to have a bezel-less, gesture based iPhone in a Plus format. I've never been bothered by the Plus sized phones: in fact, I love them, and I prefer them to the smaller size. The Plus doesn't bother me in a pants or shorts pocket, or in a shirt pocket. I take it running, cycling, to the gym, and I much prefer the larger screen. I pick up my wife's 7, and I know that I can never go back: it's so tiny and cramped to me now. The X has similar screen real estate to a Plus (it's different, yes, and not quite as big, but I wanted the new tech), but for the last year, I've really wanted an X Plus. You'll have to live with it for the 14 days that Apple allows to get a good idea if it's for you, IMO. I love big phones, and I cannot lie. :)

In terms of size etc The truth is you’ll only know when you try it...it’s so subjective.

Every year I say I'm going to get a smaller, more manageable phone but that screen and the battery life gets me every time. I don't think I'd be happy going smaller. Cant wait until the XS Max or whatever it's called.

i thought the iphone X was too small, always did. Everytime i used it i would just wish the screen was bigger. After going back to the 7+ after selling my X, i can absolutely say that this is the perfect size for a phone, for me. I have large hands and am a big guy (6'2 220) so it fits me well. I think it's really a personal thing as to which is better for you. If one size was universally better than the other, the sales would be 99% plus version and 1% regular, but we actually know that they sell a ton of both versions.

imo no matter how small a phone might be it always looks messy/untidy when i carry it in a jean's pocket or even worse in chino pants or godforbid dress pants. so in summer i carry it in one of my man's handbags

It really depends on personal preference. I owned the 8+ prior to the X being released (I had always owned the 4.7" models prior). While the screen on the + was gorgeous, it was a bit unwieldy to carry. The X is works perfectly for my needs and the battery life is pretty good too.

So again, it's really up to the OP. Like others mentioned, you have 14 days to try the device out. If you find it too big for everyday use, return it.
