I'm going to be taking a mission trip to Chile South America on Tuesday and will be gone for a total of 10 days. I want to take my iPhone along for the ride as I take it with me EVERYWHERE and it's almost a child to me lately it seems :) . I don't however, want to use the phone for calls, data, or anything that will charge me outrageously.

SOO....

I've done some reading and saw on Apple.com that if you turn on Airplane Mode, your phone is incapable of making or receiving calls, text, surfing the web or doing ANYTHING with data.

Is this true? If I turn on airplane mode the minute I got on my flight and leave the mode on the entire trip until I return in the states, will my phone pretty much turn into an iPod touch?

My main plan is to take it so that I can use it as an iPod for the 10 hour flight.

Anyone with knowledge or experience that would have input on this please help me out ASAP as I am leaving in 2 days!

Thanks :)

Yep, airplane mode will shut off everything.

In settings you can flip wifi back on if you'd like to use it at specific locations. Otherwise it will be totally unconnected.
