I have a regular ipod but recently the ipod shuffle has been capturing my eye for a more portable device. if i'm going for a 10 mins walk somewhere i don't want to take 5 mins looking for what i want to listen to. but anyway on to my question:

when you re-update the shuffle does it update the playcounts like the normal ipods? i'm a bit obsessive about playcounts. If you do autofill does it? does it not do it if you have it on manual fill? as much info on how it updates playcounts is appreciated. Thanks!

It updates the play counts but it doesn't update the 'last played' since there's no 'clock' in the Shuffle. This is only really a problem if you have smart playlists with dates in the criteria. Thankfully, my Shuffle only has 'gym' music on it, most of which I don't listen to at my desk so I haven't been too concerned.

If your Shuffle is on 'manual' fill, you can highlight those tracks that have played if you know them and use an Applescript to change the last played date.

nice

I do like when it puts the date stamp, but i'm not obsessive about that.

How do you iPod shuffle owners feel about it? any of you own both a shuffle and a normal one and find that using both has its advantages?

hello howard

i own a ipodshuffle i do feel rather disappointed that it does not update the last played, due to the lack of the screen you cannot know the name of the song that you were just listening to on your ipod, and even when you plug it into itunes it will not give you any clear way of finding out ( i.e. the last played playlist).

overall i am happy with the shuffle, but i do plan on buying a larger colour screen ipod later to hold all my music on and for photo storage (i love taking photos).

i hope that helpep.
