I just got one of the newest MBP's and I'm curious to see that the box has the quote "Backlight lamp contains mercury, dispose of according to local laws." My screen is definitely the LED model, it booted with a blinding flash of full brightness.

I guess it's possible they are just using up the stock of old boxes since I was one of the first to order the new MBP. All other specs are what they should be, so I know I didn't get an old model MBP by accident. I'm just curious to know if anyone else who ordered one early sees this quote on their box near the handle.

I can't verify that personally, but it just looks like an oversight to me.

I think there is still a limited amount of mercury in the displays, is there not?

Apple's site says "...15-inch models with a new mercury-free, power-efficient LED-backlit display."

I don't think they would use that wording unless they were completely merc free.

Probably just an old box being used up, no big deal. I'm just curious to see if others got the same box or a new box.

There was another post on these forums that explained the mercury. Apparently, while the new backlight is mercury free, other components that make up the display panel are not.

Not sure if this is true or not.

Good point. Must be a slip-up I guess

while this might be true, the back of the box specifically says "Backlight Lamp" according to the OP
