Question for New R.A Air Owners?

How long do you expect your R.A to last? Do you view your purchase in terms of years? Or months?

(I'm going off the assumption that the A's aren't really upgradable or futureproof.)

Neither the rev a or rev b are very upgradable. Maybe the b will have a few drives in the future, but neither are really upgradable. I intend on using this air as long as I can. Between this, my macbook and my iMac I think I'm good on computers for a while. Its plenty fast for most everything I do. For final cut pro and CS3 I have my macbook and a 24" dell screen.

I see my RevA MBA as a long term purchase. It's designed and being used for a purpose which isn't hugely dependent on performance, so even as the years go on, I'm not going to be doing anything particularly demanding on it, whereas on a desktop or full-spec laptop I would be more sensitive to performance. For what I use it for, it's doing well, and I don't expect that to change much over the next 2-3 years.

Long Term. I expect it to use it for the next 4 years.
I have a 24in imac, and i just purchased a Rev A.
First of all, I'm a architecture student; and for most programs, my imac serves me perfectly. I don't expect my new Air to do anything remotely close to anything design orientated. But the main and only reason I bought it for was for portability.

The situation is basically:
2009:
Primary Computer: imac
Secondary Computer: macbook air

2012:
Primary Computer: Macbook Pro 17in. I will be using it mostly at home, trying to avoid lugging it around unless I absolutely have to.
Secondary Home Computer: imac (the one I'm currently using)
Secondary Notebook: macbook air (the one I'm currently using)

sure I wont be using it as much in 3 or 4 years, but I definitely will be using it whenever I'm on the go.

I'm hoping to get 4-5 years out of mine. That's my typical timeframe. I use the MBA primarily for writing, web browsing, occasional movies. (I use my 24" iMac for heavier stuff.) Barring any unforeseen events, I see no reason why it won't continue to serve me well for a while. Love the machine! It's just so wonderful under the hands, and light, and stunning. Prêt-à-porter!

I generally expect it to last about 1 - 1.5 years. I generally upgrade quite often because I do demand a lot more performance out of a computer than most people.

i expect mine to last the length of my Apple care warranty i.e. 3 years. i wouldn't accept anything less from an Apple computer

4 years minimum.

I think its more future proof than a macbook. I think all notebooks will be this thin within 2-3 years.

My Rev A is great..the only think I'm missing is hd video. Its faster than any computer i've ever used.

Medium Term

Macs tend to age gracefully and can run productively for many years. But I tend to replace my primary laptop every 1-2 years and desktops every 3-4 years.

I got a great deal on my MBA RevA on ebay and it does everything I need (about 7 months old now). A revB would be sweet but it still would not get me down to a single machine so I figure the revA will do me til RevC is out (2ghz, 4gb, 256gb I'm hoping). That might get me to a single machine.

hoping to get though June '10 with it and than buying the top of the line MBP with student Discount for the fist month of College and than buying the newest top of the line one (if they release one) in september '10 and shipping the one i bought overt that summer back for my parents to use
