My nano-SIM that came with my iPhone 6+ has been transferred once. I used the nano-SIM from the 6+, took it out and put it in my sim-free 7+. I plan on getting the Xs MAX within a month, sim-free.

My questions is, how long do these sim cards last? Last time I pulled it out it looks like there was wear and tear/burn on the card. Would it be ok to use on the new phone? At this rate it will be 4yrs old and going on another 2yrs as I upgrade every other year.

TIA

It should be fine; SIM cards don't "wear out" aside from physical wear when you remove and insert them.

If you inserted the SIM and it works, you should be good.

HOWEVER, occasionally carriers update the hardware version of the SIM they are using, to enable new features on their network. If your SIM card is THAT old, it may be worth getting a new one from your carrier to make sure you are fully supported with all the latest network features.

You may be able to avoid doing that though, and just transfer your line to the phone's eSIM once that feature is enabled. Then the SIM slot will be open for when you are traveling abroad, etc.
