Base is really a quite capable machine. If you do a lot of video work or high CPU intensive tasks the extra cores will help. If you are one of those people, you know the answer. If not, the base configuration will serve the needs of most users. The Max will also allow much higher maximum memory. There is the Pro option which add TB5.

If you want more than two external displays you will need M4 Max chip.

If you needed the Max, you’d need to have a reason for the additional power. Do you? If not, get the base. Myself, I max everything out, but I also have a clearly defined need for it.

I went with the M4 Pro for Thunderbolt 5 and 8 Performance Cores.
