I upgraded to Yosemite as soon as it came out and when I did a few of my icons on the dock changed to question marks. My address book, my Calendar, my VLC app, and then MX Player which I have deleted and the Yahoo messenger icon as well. I understand that yahoo messenger no longer works with MAC since Yosemite (or at least not last time I checked). My question is this.... How do I get back my wanted icons and delete the question marks? I have dragged off the question marks NUMEROUS times. Tried dragging them to the trash. Tried right clicking and then clicking on remove from dock. Then I went to the applications folders and dragged the working icons back onto the dock. Ok..... so that works fine..... but as soon as I reboot, all the question marks come back and the working icons are gone again. HOW DO I FIX THIS???? It is driving me nuts! This has been going on for months. Since Yosemite came out. Please help!!!!

address book and ical have been replaced by 'contacts' and 'calendar'. so look in your applications folder. is the address book there? with a circle & line thru it? same with ical.

delete them both. and, my guess is vlc needs a newer version as well...

Nope.

I have tried replacing VLC already. I use it regularly and have even deleted it and reinstalled the new version since the upgrade. I was aware of the name change to both the contacts and calendar. The old version names do not show in my applications folder. Even still though. I delete the question marks and then add the correct icons which all work fine..... but as soon as I reboot everything goes right back to the way it was. Question marks are back and the working icons are gone again.
