Question of 3GS 3.0 JB

Quick question here... I've got a 3GS running 3.0, never JB'ed. Can I now run redsnow and JB my phone as-is or does it need a restore prior to JB as iClarified says?

I don't want to go to stock 3.1 (since apple won't sign 3.0) since I would lose my BB.

Worst case, if the JB goes bad, I won't be able to go back to 3.0 right and would have to upgrade to a non-jailbreakable/non-unlockable (for now, both) stock 3.1, correct?

I just used redsn0w to jailbreak my phone which was still on OS3.0. There is a way to downgrade back to 3.0 if you have to.

I think Redsn0w 0.8 should still work for JB the 3.0 firmware. I don't think that Redsn0w depends on the IPSW's to be signed.

You will know at the beginning if Redsn0w will allow you to select the 3.0 IPSW so if it won't recognize the IPSW, it shouldn't hurt the current OS on the phone.

Edit: Copied this and I believe it is correct ---> You jailbreak with Redsn0w and then you are pwned at 3.0 (you will need a copy of the 3.0 firmware to use with Redsn0w)
You then make a custom 3.1 firmware with the PwnageTool,put your 3GS into recovery mode and then shift/alt restore to the custom 3.1 you just made.
That is the path the Dev-Team tell you to use,just make sure the custom 3.1 is built to suit your needs.
