Question on 3G and MMS

I am going to now use the custom 500mb IPSW files on a 3G that is using AT&T. Currently tehe3G is on 3.0.1 and cant get MMS so my question is:

After i update using the custom files and it updates the carrier to i think 5.6(not sure) will MMS then automatically start working or do i have to do something else to it for it to work? Like call AT&T or something like that? Will the settings i need get put in automatically?

MMS will work instantly once you install carrier 5.6 AND REBOOT YOUR PHONE. if it doesnt, call AT&T.

Thats what i mean. I have to install carrier 5.6 or will it be a part of the upgrade?
