Hi, I have a question concerning external monitor mode of the Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo with the lid closed. It seems to only work if I have the power adapter pluged in, otherwise the computer seems to keep falling asleep. It won't stay up for more than 10 seconds. Does anyone have similar problem? Thanks very much.

I wouldn't be running the MBP with the lid closed at all. The heat rises from underneath the keyboard which will most likly damage your LCD. I would run it with it open.
That's not exactly accurate...

iBooks used to have this issue, but as far as I recall, all PowerBook G4's could do this and all MacBooks including Pros are able to handle this.
As for why it's sleeping, I don't know why it does that. I'm not sure of any requirements on having the external power plugged in for use in that mode.
All current Apple laptops can run perfectly well with the lid closed. The PowerBook G4 also had this ability. The iBook can't because it dissipates heat differently.
To the OP, this is not a problem, you have to be plugged in to run an external monitor with your laptop's lid closed. That's just the way it works.

Thanks. Just to clarify. Did you mean "you have to be plugged into the power adapter" in order to run an external monitor with laptop's lid closed?
