Ok, I recently added another user on my machine to check for a problem with my dvd drive and then deleted the user afterwards so there was just an administrator on my machine. When I was looking at the macintosh hd and looking under the users/shared file, I saw that there were some sample garageband songs. What i'm curious about is if the garageband sample songs are only located in the shared file under the "users" or "user" folder, or if this was a copy of these files from someplace else on the hard drive when I had created another user.

IIRC, Garageband 2.0 installs demo songs in the shared folder by default. Garageband song files and filevault don't get along well because filevault can't decode files fast enough for Garageband. Since the shared folder exists outside of the home folder, it's unaffected by filevault. If you don't use filevault, then you can move them into the regular music folder, or wherever you would normally keep Garageband song files, demo or otherwise.
