So recently I upgraded my iCloud to the $2.99 per month for 200gb, but I am curious about something.

What if I cancel my subscription, what happens to the data? Does it just get erase off iCloud and I’m back to the free 5 gig one?

I might just back up my phone to an external source rather than using iCloud

Thanks

Good question.

I know I've read that Apple will prevent you from doing any syncing with iCloud (eg. Messages, Contacts, Bookmarks, etc) until you get down below the size limit.

Also have read that you have 30 days to save things. At that point, no idea how/if Apple would surgically clear out things (ie. not erase core things like Message, Contacts, Bookmarks, etc).

If cancelling, I'd first go in and clear out things myself. Save/delete pictures, remove backups until you are under the 5GB limit. Then cancel. To be safe.

Why don’t you like iCloud?

I like iCloud,
Just not paying for it. Majority of my storage usage are my photos- I might just stick with google photos for unlimited storage.

Also I paid for iCloud cause my computer didn’t have enough storage for back up- but I might just use external hard drive for iTunes back up
