Question on Mac Pro

I am setting up a brand new Mac Pro someone for their Christmas present (lucky them ), and though it is super fast after it starts up, startup takes longer than on my MBP.

More specifically, when you first press the power button, a gray screen comes up and it takes about 10-15 seconds for the apple logo to appear and the hard drive to begin thrashing.

My main theory is that it is testing the memory before it starts to boot (I know that a lot of PCs do that). I has a lot of memory (4GB), and it is configured with eight 512MB memory chips, which supposedly is not ideal because of latency issues).

Anybody have any ideas of what the deal is?

Because you have more RAM, it prob takes more time for teh system to test it and everything upon boot up possibly.

Go into the startup disk preference pane and make sure your boot drive is selected.

If it isn't, it's having to go and find an OS every time it boots instead of just knowing where one is.

I believe that that is selected...I use the startup disk preference pane to go back and forth between windows and os x.

Does anybody else have this issue, or does anybody else have an 8x 512MB memory configuration that doesn't have this problem?
