I recently purchased a macbook at my school's computer store.

I heard of the staining on the handrests on the macbook so I am afraid that i'll happen to my macbook too soon or later.

I was wondering since I got my macbook at a school store, would I have any problem try to deal with regular apple retail stores? (my school's store won't deal with it).

Also, I want to know how the apple stores deal with this staining problems. I heard of one case where they just gave them an entire new macbook.

Thanks

they (apple) are replacing the keyboard (basically the stained area) to fix the issue. that is what most people are reporting in on

If you have the problem, you can either deal with it from the Apple Store or through phone. If your school store can actually repair them, they might too because some resellers can repair and service macs.

Very few of them stain. Mine hasnt.

Don't let bad reports put you off. The MacBook is a brilliant machine, and most are perfect, or near perfect. There are just a few reported cases of problems with them.

If you look at how many complaints there are compared to how many have been sold, I think you would find that the problem rate is very small.

There was a poll here a few weeks ago, and it turns out something like 80% had perfect computers, 15% had minor defects, and only 5% had major defects (including staining). I would guess that about 3% had staining issues.

Should you be one of the few unlucky ones, Apple would (or should) repair/replace it.

Hope this helps, and enjoi your MacBook!

I have a Macbook - I got it about a week ago and it's started staining.

BUT - I just called Apple, and they'll be replacing the top casing (not the whole computer) for free. I'm not completely sure, but from the other threads that I've read, it seems as though the chances of getting an entirely new Macbook would be slim - in the store or out of it. Mostly they just order new topcasing.

Hope this helps!

my MB stained within the first 3 weeks during light use. you will know by then.
Apple sent me a brand new one however.

mine is staining (worse by the day it seems) but apple is replacing the top case free of charge. I'm bringing it in tomorrow.

Rumor has it that later builds use a better plastic that won't stain (the same plastic that's being used for repairs), so hopefully if you buy one now, and it hasn't been sitting on the shelf for weeks, you'll be ok.
