Have been playing with my new MBP (2.4 C2D SR, 160GB 7200rpm, 4GB) and noticed the start-up and shut-down time is approximately 20 sec and 10 sec respectively upon inital setup.
I have partition 60GB of my harddisk using bootcamp but have not install Windoz.
After importing my photo and music library, adding a 3 more widget and without installing too many new app (all of them are <50mb), my MBP start-up/shut-down time have increased substantially to 35 sec and 30 sec. My Mac HD still have 50GB left and I only have i-tunes index (can't remembered exactly) as my only start-up app to run. I can't imagine this could take a while though... I'm not sure what causes the "relatively hugh" delay.
I know I shouldn't be complaining too much as it was way better than my XP at work (takes 6-8 minutes to boot up and have Outlook up and running), nevertheless, it is always good to understand what are the known factors that could drag the time up abit and to avoid it going forward (e.g. in the XP world, not to initatie too much program upon start-up).
I have gone through afew posts in this and other forums, so far, I concluded that what I could do to potentially speed up the start-up and shut-down time is to use disk utility (verify and repair disk) via booting from the disc supplied. Does any one agreed with this?
Please let me have your thoughts/$0.02.
Thanks in advance.
