Question on UK student discount

I placed my order for a white Macbook with 512Mb ram and superdrive list price £899 (UK) 3 minutes after the Macbook annoucement.

As i am in higher education i contacted Apple via telephone and ordered the above Macbook and took advantage of my educational discount. The price i was given and the amount that was debited from my bank account was £773.15 a whopping discount of £125.85!!!!!!!

Maybe a belated 40th birthday present from Apple?

Apple have under-charged me, haven't they?

What have other members of this forum been charged?

No that's the correct price It's an awesome deal (though I feel left out, I'm not at uni so eligible for that big a discount), especially if you have access to an egg card as well! *JEALOUS*

When i check online through the HE website it says i should pay around £849 with the discount!

their are multiple types of edu store, 4 infact the one you looked at has a crappy 8% discount, what you got over the phone is the proper higher education 15% discount.

Students and Academic Staff may take advantage of Apple's Higher Education discounts via the Apple HE Store. Now, it varies from institution to institution - here at Bath I have the max 15%.

If you wish to take advantage of the max 15% when your institution's HE site only lists 8% then you just need to register your NUS card and access the apple store via the NUS site.

Simple. The discounts are great.

My sister is at Bath. Good uni, apparently. I'm going to be paying for my Macbook by myself, which I'd prefer, my parents paid for my Powerbook so I'll give that to them. But I could do with this 15%, and while it would be ethically wrong to get my sister to buy it to take advantage of the discount I am going to uni in a year anyway, but I could do with having the Macbook sooner.

The Macbook 2.0Ghz would take a big bite out of my funds, but then again I could use the DVD recording capability and unless I'm missing something Apple won't let you upgrade the 1.83 Ghz to a Superdrive. Dang.

8% is what you get in an Apple Store.


Yup, it does vary between institutions.

I bought my iMac for £1,043, £1,155 on the HE site, £1,229 on Apple Store site. So, 15%.

Power Macs are crazy for my uni, 20-25%.

I don't see this as ethically wrong. You are in education and it'll last you until university. If however you get a different mac before university (and thus have no intention of using the MacBook there) I think you should pay full price, as you should have paid full price for this MacBook. Ethics are hard just ask yourself, am i stealing?

Being a final year student at UWE (and having lived near Bath all my life) I can tell you that ethics or no ethics, once you are student you will try anything to save money. If you want a MacBook, use the discount!

go to http://www.nusonline.co.uk download the form for an nusassociate card fill it in wait a week register your card online then access the applestore via nusonline for the 14% discount.

just call apple on the normal tel order no. Tell them you want to buy for friend\family at uni and they'll give you the 15% off with NO checks.
They're still making more than when they sell via pcworld etc, i assure you pc world take more than15%!

She's studying Pharmaceutical Studies/Pharmacy, in her second year (I think, haha).

I'd like to go there, but I have to go to Birmingham, joining the Army as a nurse. What are you doing?

Thanks for the advice. I've got one more year till uni and I would use it during uni, so that would be fair enough. I'd just like to get the Macbook earlier because my Pbook is dying.
