So, I have a successful bootcamp install on my iMac and have recently up graded to Leopard.

If I want to use VM Fusion to get desktop access to my windows xp stuff, will I have to do a completely re-install of WinXP through VM Fusion, or can it just pull what it needs from my existing bootcamp install?

Thanks.

You're right, it is a very lazy question. Mainly because the answer is so easy to get that you could have found it in the same time it took you to post a new thread.

You can use your bootcamp partition in fusion. It's one of the selling points.

Actually, I did look around for a definitive answer but didnt' find one. Sure, I can use the partition, but do I need to reinstall Windows XP again to use that same partition with VM Fusion.

no you do not need to reinstall windows... when you open vmware fusion it will automatically detect your boot camp partition and allow you to run it virtually

I have to call BS. Quoted from the VMWare Fusion web page:

VMware Fusion makes it easy to install Windows as a virtual machine on your Intel-based Mac, and makes a perfect complement to Apple Boot Camp. Use your existing Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine, or use the built-in Windows Easy Install to install a fresh copy of Windows on a new virtual machine.

Here's the lazy link: http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/

Took me less than 40 secs to get that info btw.

Feel free to call BS if you wish. I did not understand whether or not I needed to use the same windows xp disk and update a lot of files and such. Why? I can't find the disk.

Thanks for taking the time to answer this mac newbie's question.

Thanks. That's all I was asking. I'm not that up on what using the same partition means. I know a partition is a disk space, but it was the actual install that I was trying to figure out.
