Hi!

Over the years I never got how the itunes backup works.
Recently I had some issues with my phone and had to use my backup phone (which is not the same as my usual phone).
So in order to clarify once for good, please help me to sort ou this.

I dont get the backup option in Itunes.
Let's say I backed up several months ago.
Since then I only sync the phone to Itunes every week.
But if I decide to back up again, Itunes makes a completely new backup and does not function like Time machine (adding stuff to the already existing backup).

So 2 questions :
How to back up the phone without having a whole new backup created every time I back it up?
Is Sync working like Time machine and if so, can I just backup once and Sync only after and restore from the last Itunes Sync to my new iphone?
Or I can only restore (as it seems) from a backup?

Thanks!

Sync is not a backup.
When you creata backup, it overwrites the old backup unless you’ve moved that backup file out of the folder to store somewhere else.
iTunes/iPhone backup isn’t incremental. It’s everything or nothing.

So if I get that well, I backed up once a week ago my 100 gb of info and since then I have 200 mb of new info on the phone; I will have then to copy again 100.2 gb on the computer because Itunes makes a fresh backup every time??

Is there a way to have incremental backup then?

Thanks a lot for your time.

Check the size of your last backup. That’s as small as it’s going to get unless you delete stuff off the phone. Incremental backups are not possible.
