2 Questions:

I intend to give my early 2015 MBP to a family member, and will need to port over the entire contents and settings to a 2018 MBP. What cable will I need to do this with?

She has a 2012 MBP and will be porting over her data to my early 2015. What cable will she need?

And, if you can help, thanks in advance!

Data can get screwed up via Migration Assistant and/or macOS upgrades even in the best of situations. I agree that external drives (one for each) should be used…and I would use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone each of the two older computer hard drives to the two externals, then migrate to a clean install of macOS during setup using the externals.

The clones will assure that you still have all data from the original computers.

I actually just received an answer from Apple re the correct cable to use, so I'm good to go!
