Question Regarding iCloud, iWork, and Versions

I am looking into buying iWork for my iPhone, but I have a question about how it works with Versions. Above all, I want Versions to continue to work properly.

My question is this: If I use iCloud I have to upload the documents to iCloud and then they go on my iPhone. If I want them back on my laptop, I have to download them from there. What happens to the different versions that Versions had already created for that file when I edited it on my Mac (before putting it on the iPhone)? Do they get erased or just continue to work (without any new versions from when it was on my iPhone)?

For the record, naming the thing "Versions" was a bad move, you can't search on Google for anything about it.

I still don't have an answer to this and this is one of the first things that comes up when I google it.

Anyone know this will work with and iPad and an iPhone using iCloud and Pages?

What happens to the versions that Lion takes care of in the background?
