Question regarding iCloud

I just want to ask if I will buy a second hand macbook pro, can I still register this to my iCloud account? even if this 2nd hand mbp is already associated with the first owner iCloud account?

Please enlighten me.

I need to know if I use my apple ID on System Pref > iCloud I can now locate this using find my mac by logging in at icloud.com on a browser?

I'm curious because, I will be buying a second hand mbp from a friend which is not so techie so I know she can't help me on my concern.

Of course I don't want her to track me wherever I go, which is the case that soon I will be the owner of her mbp.

Would think this would not be a problem.

On the safe side, I always tell people to wipe the original OS and Software off the drive and start fresh. This way you are sure the machine is actively only linked to your account.

Just sign out of the first iCloud account and then sign in with your account info.
