Question regarding "sleep mode"

Sometimes I just want to close my MBP without shutting it down, and then take it with me. Then when I carry it, it would be in sleep mode.

Is it bad to carry a MBP when it is in sleep mode? Or do I have to do a shut down?

It is perfectly fine to carry it in sleep mode. It's just best to wait a couple seconds after closing it to move it, so the hard drive can stop.
