Hi guys,

So my normal workflow is that I take a few photos with my Sony α7 III, then I plug the SD card into the card reader and then I import the photos into the Photos app. Now I noticed something: While the majority of the photos get imported as .JPGs some get imported as .PNGs (and are about 5 times larger). Why is that?

Thanks and best wishes
Chris

Dig in to your cameras settings and see what is selected for image type. I choose jpeg and RAW. I have an older Sony, png is not even an option. Also, I drag the contents of my camera file to the desktop , don’t allow them to be imported. Works great every time.

I have three options there: RAW, RAW & JPEG and JPEG. I always have the "JPEG" option selected. I'm really quite confused why some pictures are in the .png format when I import them.

EDIT: Oh man, I think I know what's the reason. I probably edited some of these photos with an image editor program and then re-imported it ? Sorry for the confusion.

By the way, here's a picture of actually 3 different naming schemata and the 2 different file types that I encounter when importing photos from this camera. That's really strange.
