Hi everyone,

I just downloaded JDownloader 2 to download some YouTube videos. It worked without any issues on my old Intel MBP, and now I wanted to install it on my new M2 Pro MBP. After I tried to download a video, a popup window came up, saying that I have to install the FFmpeg package or something like that in order to be able to merge video + audio. So far, so good, this messages also came up on my Intel MBP.

After that, however, a messages came up that the FFmpeg package needs "Rosetta 2" to get it to work. I clicked on "OK" and after a manual reboot of JDownloader, I could successfully download the video.

The thing is: I read this article (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211861) and there, a popup window regarding the Rosetta installation is shown. It also says that you have to enter your username and password to do that. However, in my case, this window didn't come up and I also didn't have to enter my username and password. Instead, it was a native window by JDownloader itself and I just clicked on "OK".

So my question now would be: What kind of Rosetta installation was this? Is there any way I can check the installation and why didn't I have to enter any password?

Thanks in advance!

macOS will automatically request to install Rosetta2 from its servers if you are trying to execute code that is not Universal and includes only Intel code.

I don't recall being asked for my password when Rosetta installed itself.

I've built a few Mx Macs and sometimes I got the popup, sometimes I didn't. I don't know what triggers or not triggers it.

The only notification I got about installing Rosetta 2 was a popup dialog box with an "ok" button. I did not have to enter a username or password. The password thing might be specific to installing Rosetta directly instead of the OS prompting for installation when an x86 app is being run for the first time.
