Just upgraded to an iPhone 8+ 10,5 on 11.0.3. As usual i restored from the previous device's (iPhone 7 on 11.0.3) iCloud backup and everything seems fine.

I never delete my texts as i use my phone for business as well and personal to send quotes etc. To search a message you'd just have to start typing the recipients name in the search field above messages and you'd get loads of results relevant to what you are typing.

This seems to have stopped working and the search feature only seems to pick up things after the upgrade. Its as if the search is 'indexed' but the update hasn't carried the index over if you know what i mean so i cant find a message without scrolling through the full list of messages to find the recipient.

Is this anything anyone else if suffering by any chance? Is there anything i can do?

Thanks in advance...

Just Googled this issue and it's quite common. Unfortunately, I couldn't see anyone with a definite fix, but it's worth trying the steps listed here: http://www.iphonetopics.com/message-search-not-working-issue-ios-8/

The change language option is the one I'd try. I've also seen suggestions of resetting all settings. However, I'd do that as a last resort and only if you're comfortable with your settings being reset.

Seem to recall some threads where Messages has some odd behaviour to start, but once a new message comes in, things work again. But, assuming OP has alreasy received at least one new message.

Also seem to recall where someone had to bring up the specific text chain to get it reindexed.

I’ll give this a shot thanks

Yes, once I’ve sent them a new message it kicks it back in but I’ve hundresds of message threads dating back forever.

So, i did step one and 2 of the link provided by @Hustler1337 neither of which worked. I fired up the support app and went through the options iOS/messages and ended up in a support chat. I saw the option to attach a file to the chat so i went to my messages app do record the issue and it only proved me to be a liar! Its working again!!

Somewhere in between swapping language to English US, rebooting, changing back to English UK, turning off siri search and openigng the support app, it booted it to life and its working how it should. Thanks for your help (i think!) @Hustler1337

Haha, typical. The moment you ask someone, everything starts to function. We're still none the wiser as to which of the suggestions across the internet actually work. The mystery lives on :p
