Question to Mac Users (Imovie-final-Cut)

First my wife is pregnant and we are waiting for our first child (early june). We bought a good HD camera (panasonic HDC-TM700) and I am now looking for a good DSLR (around 1000$) camera and start taking photography course.

I'm also awaiting on the next Imac (going from pc to mac) but one big question popped in my head today for mac users.
How do you burn or watch HD movies with your macs? Will i have to downgrade the image and burn it to a DVD?
 
You plan on playing these in a Blu-ray player? If so, you'll have to buy a Blu-ray drive to burn. Most newer DVD and Blu-ray players recognize data disc so maybe you can just burn your files to a disc.

I've really gotten away to burning things to discs. Everything seems to be shifting to keeping digital media these days. I can't even remember the last time I burned a CD....let alone a movie to disc.
 
I like the Nikon DSLRs, get 2 lenses (one for standard pics and one for telephoto). I have the D50 body, and it came with a Nikkor 15-55mm lense, and bought a telephoto that goes to 300mm. Seems to cover the gamut for what I do (simple stuff).

You options on video (if you must distribute on a disc) are blu-ray for HD and DVD or other (SD). I would do everything in HD, and if you must burn something to disk (I agree with sbeezy...try to keep it all digital), render it in SD and burn to DVD. I just store the HD version, and distribute it via iPad/iPod and apple TV at the house. The parents get a DVD :)

I just moved from PC to Mac (like a week or 2 ago)...I LOVE it. 16 years on PC (exclusively...no Mac experience at all), it has been very easy. I bought the current iMac (vs waiting ... i;m not a waiter). I would wait if you can, though. Either way, you won't regret the move.
 
An external Blu-ray drive would be ok with an Imac?
Does final cut pro and Imovie can burn HD stuff to an external BR disk?
I'm using my ps3 on my Samsung 50' 1080p tv so for myself I want to keep the best image possible.

I'm looking at the sony A55 right now, for a newb like me I think that it would be a good place to start!!
 
I export them in HD and watch them on Apple TV. Home movies look great. I love that I'm not tied to any physical media anymore. If I see an editing/shooting problem I can just go back to the scene, re-edit it and export again. No need to burn the same stuff over and over again.
 
I see an ehernet cable connection at the back, since my TV and computer are too far from each other. Can i use wifi for HD video without any lag?
I'm using a D-Link Dir-825

Yes, as HD movies are typically only using a data rate of 1MB/s, sometimes even 2MB/s, if they are highly compressed using some MPEG-4 codec (H.264 for example, the codec used for the trailers on http://trailers.apple.com and other videos, like YouTube ones), and 802.11n is capable of transmitting at least 7MB/s, therefore you should be safe.
 
Sell your video-camera and buy a Canon 60D.

The DSLR cameras are perfect for video and creates a cinematic picture.

I was lookinng at the sony A55 or the Canon T3i since I'm a beginer in photography. Do i need the extra options on the 60d?

I've never tried them, but I know people use them because they rip Blu-Rays in the AppleTv forum quite extensively. A lot of Plex users do this as well. Too much of a headache if you ask me. Good luck.
