Quite simple: fan or no fan? ;)

The Imac is dead silent, and now my OWC dual drive casing has a small fan which annoys me. I used to stack Hard Drives in my PC, and I'm sure it was hotter than my WD Black and WD GReen drive that I put inside the casing.

Would you turn the fan off? heh

I'd go no fan, the one in my external Samsung drive drove me nuts so I disconnected it. 1 year on and no heat problems.

i would say do it on your own risk ,
most external enclosures come fanless if they got a single harddrive inside , but then they have enough openings so hot air can get out easy.
The enclosures with fans usually have only a small opening at the back or side so turning off the fan could cause the harddrive getting to hot , doesnt have to happen , but can .
So i would suggest to take a thermometer and measure the temp when you turned the fan of , if it goes beyond 55 celsius i would turn the fan back on and maybe look for a more quiet fan for inside
