I've been using idvd to compress and burn several projects which run about 70-90min each. I've been exporting my timelines from FCP as quicktime movies - then importing them into idvd - then adjusting idvd's settings which allow me to use a single DVD. After burning, I'm seeing quality issues like a sublte screen flickering (particularly in wide shots), and loss of color vibrance. QUESTION: is this just the result of idvd compressing the file? Would using a dual layer DVD help as I wouldn't have to compress as much? Is there anything that can be done to yield better results within idvd?

I don't use iDVD, so I don't know much about it, but I wouldn't expect the MPEG2 compressor in iDVD to be particularly high-end. I use Compressor to encode to MPEG2 and DVD Studio Pro to author DVDs and am 100% pleased with the results.
