Questions abot noise level and SSD possibility on Mac Minis

Good evening everyone,

I'm thinking to purchase a new basic model Mac Mini and upgrading the RAM and HD myself. So I only three main concerns.

1. Is the Mac Mini as silent as the MacBooks or MacBook Pros?

2. Will it be possible to put in a 2.5 inch SSD drive? If yes, would be as easy as it is on a Macbook?

3. Does it have the exact power as a 2.0GHz MacBook? So i can do some light movie editing and Aperture.

1: I've had the previous Mac Mini and MacBook and they made the same amount of noise I believe, so the new ones should be equal on noise level as well, but am not sure.

2: No it will be harder to put the SSD into the Mac Mini as the case is kind of a b*tch, but as far as I know there shouldn't be any problems with putting a SSD in it. Here's disassembly pics from the newest Mac Mini

3: Yes the 2.0 Unibody and the 2.0 Mac Mini are the same spec-wise except for RAM (and hard drive but it's unimportant since you want to put in a SSD anyway), the Mini has only 1GB but you can increase that yourself if you're gonna open it up for the SSD anyway.

If you do it yes, but I know around me there's a local company called Mac TLC that you can bring the hardware in and they'll install it for $75/hr and your warranty will still be intact (they only took an hour to switch a hard drive on my old 17" iMac and I asked them about possibly installing a 2TB HDD into my 2.8 C2D iMac), so if you can find someone in your area and are willing to pay the extra cash you might want to have a certified Apple technician do the swap.

there has always been a difference of opinion with this

the general consensus is that:

a) you are covered as long as you don't damage the system/case while upgrading

b) you are covered as long as its not an aftermarket part that damages the computer or is responsible for bricking
