Ok, before I start asking questions let me explain my current situation:

Right now I have a blackberry bold (on att) which I signed a contract for in nov 2008.

I have unlimited text and data (I think we have the unlimited text family plan).

So here are my questions:

1) Do I need to be eligible for an upgrade to get the $49 refurb 3G?

2) Would my monthly bill increase if I already have unlimited text/data?

3) Would it be better to wait for the next iphone release/when I'm eligible for an upgrade to get an iphone?

4) What would happen if I just switched my sim card from my bold to an iphone and started using it?

Thanks a lot, sorry I'm such a n00b !

1. Yes. The non-upgrade eligible price is $249.

2. Maybe. It depends on how much you pay for your data plan now. I actually ended up paying less for data on an iphone than I was paying for my HTC. I pay $30 per month/per phone for iPhone data.

3. That's something only you can answer. if paying the $200 penalty is worth it to you, then go for it. ATT will also re-start your contract (this is something exclusive to iphones) as soon as you activate it even if you buy it at the non-eligible price so you'll have another 2 years before your eligible again. If I was in your situation, I'd probably wait. You'll be eligible right around the time whatever the 2010 version of the iphone rolls out.
