I have a Rev C, SSD. Absolutely Love it. Can't bear the thought of giving it up even for two or three days, so I thought I'd ask here first:

When I wake from sleep -- with the computer open, just by pressing a key -- I am suddenly getting a very soft buzz, sounds almost like a second or two of static, pretty clearly coming from the left side of the trackpad, right where my left palm will soon rest.

Anyone one have a similar buzz, or any guesses?

What is right under the case at that spot? Thank you

Rockville (Despite REM's plea.)
The fan is on the left side of the unit, but it is a bit further toward the back of the unit, but depending on the surface, it could just be a vibration. If you want to see, there is a sticky link at the top of the forum showing an MacBook Air disassembled, or you can check out the MacBook Air tear down at ifixit.com.

If I am guessing correctly, it would be the same sound that the MBA makes when you power it on, i.e. a faint "Bzzt" that lasts for about a second.

In that case, it is normal.

No, the fan is not on.

It may well be the startup noise, but it seems slightly strange that I've had the machine for several months now and never noticed it before. I'll think I'll shut down and start up again and see if it is the same noise. The description above sure seems to match it. Thanks all.

Let me know. It's good to keep in mind that just because we have SSD HDs it doesn't mean our machines will emit no sound.

My Macbook CD did the same thing for 3 years till it died last week, I never worried about it . . .

I think you got it. Thanks. It makes the same noise upon start up if I listen carefully. I simply must not have noticed it upon waking from sleep before.

My obsessiveness notwithstanding, I am nuts about this machine.
