I'm thinking of getting an ATV in the future, but i'm not really sure if i indeed need it or not. For one reason is that itune movie store is not available in Canada, besides, my major source of video is from DVD, i don't think i can stand the quality of itune movies.

So what I'm curious is that if ATV is able to stream DVD playback from my mac mini. If not, I'd prob. just get an airport express to stream my music instead of paying $200 more for the ATV.

No, AppleTV will not stream DVDs from any of the linked computers.

It's only concerned with iTunes data, so if you can't get it from iTunes to iPod, you can't get it to AppleTV either.

Talking about your personal DVD's, you'd have to rip them first into iTunes. Handbrake does a good job using the AppleTV preset, but no DD5.1.
