Questions about iMac

Hi

I've been seriously considering of buying an iMac, but I have a few questions

How is the screen quality on the new 17" model? Has it been improved since rev. A? I remember seeing the old one once, and I thought it looked quite washed out. I know the 20" model would have a much better screen, but what can I do with my limited budget.

Right now I'm using a Mac mini, and the graphics performance leaves a lot to be desired, such as iPhoto slideshows, Exposé, genie effect and so on... how do these things work on iMac? And hopefully I get to play Myst V with decent frame rates? (it's pretty hopeless on mini)

Just got my imac on thursday (yes im another one of those windows > apple converts). Ive got to say, i love it. I opted to go all out for the 20" model, and have not regret it. Crystal clear screen which runs tiger and apps smoothly for the most part - need to upgrade my stock memory.

Ive tried looking for dead pixels and defects, and have not found any as of yet and although I haven't bought any games for it - it seems that all graphics based things are running sweet.

Save up and get the 20"

p.s. if anyone knows of a dead pixel checker for my imac that i could download, that would be helpful!

I think you're right - for 340 euros more I could get a much nicer display... I just realized the 17" iMac has less pixels than my current 17" TFT. (which has better specs as well!) Oh well, better start pinching pennies. lol

The 20" iMac now has a better screen than the 20" Cinema Display (according to Apple listed figures). Makes it a very goods buy indeed as I have used the 20" Cinema Display and it is a fantastic unit.

There is a program you can download, but I HIGHLY recommend you don't.

Apple requires I believe a minimum of 6 dead pixels before they will even consider replacing the screen. If you run that program, and it finds 2 dead pixels, Apple won't replace the screen. From that point on, everytime you turn on your iMac, your eyes will be immediately drawn to those dead pixels, driving you absolutely crazy!

If you can't find anything wrong, don't go looking for problems because it'll only make you nuts.
