I’m planning to buy an BTO M1 MBP in the couple of weeks. I live a few hours from an Apple Store but plan to go up there on vacation to have my iPhone battery replaced and would like to pick it up.

How far in advance should I order this? How long will they hold it? Should I open it up in store to check for any issues? Anything I should be aware of?

I was thinking of picking it up day one then staying the night in a hotel to kind of play around with it. I’d hate to pick it up and wait 3 hours for the drive back home. But, my ISP is a lot faster at home lol.

You can go through the motions of doing the BTO and see what the estimated delivery time would be.

Just went through it and it's showing April 22, 2022 shipped to my nearest Apple Store. But that assumes everything in the logistics and supply chain does not have any snags.

As to how long they will hold it, don't think I've ever seen a real number, but safe to say a week (might have seen that for iPhones), maybe longer, as you've paid for it. Might even be able to call them and make arrangements if need some extra time to get there.

Interesting. Maybe we’re looking at different Macs. I picked the 2020 13” MBP, 16 Ram, 1TB storage. And it said I can pick it up tomorrow. Maybe that’s a standard configuration?

Edit. Nevermind! I check it right after your comment then checked it after I posted. Dates changed significantly. Maybe I got lucky. I’ll check stores in the area though.

Thanks!

Do Apple Stores do iPhone battery replacements while you wait?

They’ve done it in the past. I think. I was planning to drop it off, eat lunch, watch a movie, then pick it up.

But plans may have changed. I was also planning to pick up a new MBP. Shipping’s pushed back to late April. WWDC is maybe 5 weeks later. I may just wait and see if they announce anything new. I mean, I’ve been waiting 8 years already, what’s a few more weeks?

I think that if you're going to do a build-to-order, and DON'T live close to an Apple Store (as you do not) -- that you might just as well have it shipped to your home address.

Trying to get a "store pickup" set up may prove to be more trouble than it's worth.
