I might get an iPhone (original) pretty soon, and want it on T-Mobile... Anyways, I was wondering:
1. Can I just walk into T-Mobile and have them activate my iPhone? (T-Zones hack and everything) Or I do have an old GSN phone, could they activate that, and I just move the sim into the iPhone?
2. Does T-Zones push email, work on youtube, and aim? My main purpose of it would be Safari, but it would be nice to have all that other stuff working as well.
3. This plan should be ok, correct: the $29.99 300 min talk plan plus T-Zones should work?
4. Anything else I should know?

It sounds like you currently don't have T-Mobile service, so sign up for new service and get a free phone. Then pop the SIM card into your unlocked iPhone and you're good to go. Then you can sell the free phone on eBay, or keep it for backup.

From what I understand, YouTube does not work, but everything else does.

That is correct, I do not currently have service, thanks for all your help!

Sign up and pick the best free phone you can. Keep it. I wouldn't sell it ecause if you want to get away with cheap data you need a regular phone IMEI on your account. If you sell the free phone you run the risk of someone buying it and attempting to activate it on T-Mo and that will cause you a problem.

I just did the same thing to sign up on Suncom. Just waiting on a unlock!
