First of all I want to thank you all in advance for answering some of my questions. I am really interested in an iPad but was wondering what exactly you could do with it in terms of reading the newspaper etc. For instance if you get the wifi version will the Wall Street Journal download onto your iPad in the morning and save automatically, granted you have a subscription? That way if you take the subway or train in the morning you can read the whole paper on the iPad OR is it like the NY times app that the Apple Store had where you would have to individually save the articles (using wifi) and then read them. I would imagine that you should be able to read whole papers or magazines without internet connection always it should just download

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

I just opened the wall street journal and it just starts downloading the stuff. So i would assume that you can read the full paper offline.

Edit: my bad, meant offline.

But if I am on the train and dont have a wifi connection can I still read the whole paper? I understand with the wifi on you can browse the app and read the paper but what Im trying to see is if either now or in the future, you can buy a WSJ or NYT subscription and everymorning it downloads the paper to your iPad vs having to logon to the app and have wifi to read it. If you live in NYC and take the subway etc theres no wifi down there but you still want to read your paper.

Thanks

There's an app for that called instapaper. It saves any online article offline so you can read it whenever you want. It's $4.99, and got glowing reviews from sites like engadget and gizmodo. Idk how you'd get your specific subscriptions though

The iPhone app could pre-fetch articles and images (or just articles w/o images) when launched. It's a setting in the preferences. Not sure if the iPad version has that too or not. Haven't had a chance to try it yet.

K thanks for the replies. I would just naturally think that if this thing is going to revolutionize the way we read and see media that things such as newspapers and magazines (that you would obviously subscribe to) should automatically download to your iPad that way when you are on the go you dont need wifi or 3g connection, you can see the whole paper unlike the NYT app where only certain articles are available.

Thanks again for the replies.

My bad, I meant to say offline. I just tested it out by turing my wifi off and it loaded up the whole paper.

If you decide to get one, i would first read the reviews for specific paper apps you want first to see if there like the wall street.
