Hello,
I need to buy a new laptop and the MacBook Air M1 13” with 8GB memory would be a perfect price match to me.

However, I have a couple of questions that I would like to ask.

First doubt, as to the memory, 8GB seem to little to me, in my iMac I have 32 GB. I know there is the 16GB version but it costs much more, too much for additional 8GB.

Are I your opinion 8GB enough or a standard usage (business computer) or has anyone experienced delays or issues?

Second and obvious doubt, this is the first generation of Apple chip, isn’t it to early, are in your opinion any flaws due to the youth of this new chip generation?

Thanks for your clarification,
Dan

For home/office use 8GB is plenty. These new Macs are quite efficient at juggling memory.

There are certainly some software bugs (Bluetooth issues/display compatibility), but Apple has promised fixes to come soon. The M1 machines are limited to a single external display, I am sure this limitation will be removed in future generations.

But if you need a good business laptop, M1 air is excellent choice.

As a rule, steer clear of Rev. 1 products.

If you can get by with what you have now, don't buy into the hype of "new" products. However, if the M1 offers something you can't do without a new computer, or will pay for itself with increased productivity, then you may as well offer yourself up to be a beta tester for Apple.

I don't feel $200 should be a deal breaker for twice the ram, it will never be able to be added later, and 16GB is the bare bones minimum any new computer should come with, you can likely recoup some of that cost if/when you resell the Mac, just remember to keep the box and packaging, as they will also bring you a few more dollars in the resale market.

I think the Air is a two year investment, use it two years and replace it, so an extra $100 a year for double the ram really isn't all that bad.
