questions re: Scratch disks and organising files?

Hi guys,

I've got a powermac dual 2.5 with the 160gb hdd, and I've added a spare sata 120gb from my decommissioned windows pc.

Now, can anyone clafify the following for me?

1)I've formatted it as mac extended (journalled) is that the best way?

2) Photoshop and final cut express use scratch disks, and I can set multiple scratch disks, but it doesn't really make it clear which way is best. Can someone help with how this should be setup?

3) for photoshop and video editing, which drive am I best saving output to?

4) Is it right I can only install apps to the drive that actually has OSX Installed on it?

Thanks in advance! Any tips you can give me on how to configure my setup would be really helpful!

The concepts are relevant whichecver hard drive model you have.

Best pratice is this:
System on it's own drive.
Scratch(s) on their own drive.
Media sources save to their own local drive.
Also, If I am running on a deadline, I work with the primary media source directly, rather than working with a copy. That is usualy when I work with batching actions.

Very few people can afford to do this.
It really isn't necessary, but that's my work set up.

My setup personal setup is this dependent on where I am.

Away from home:
System scratch and apps on the primary drive.
Scratches and media sources on their own.

At home:
OS and Apps on their own drive.
Program scratches on the same drive as master media
Render to its own drive.

Generaly I save video sources to the ancelary drive and stills to the primary drive, but that's due to both size and the fact I work with very few stills.
