iPad Questions regarding on-line pre-orders and trade-ins with store pickup

Still on the fence but am considering the 2021 12.9” and had a couple of questions regarding on-line pre-orders and trade-ins with store pickup. For a trade-in on a preorder with with store pickup, is the trade-in made at the time of pickup? Am I assuming correctly that Apple does not finalize the charge until pickup? Any issues with cancelling pre-orders?

They did trade-in at the time of pickup when I dropped my IPP off at the Apple Store, yes.

Thanks for the reply. On the on-line pre-order, it says item not available in local stores and opts for shipping only. Can that be changed at some point to in-store pickup?

What are the factors that's pushing you to upgrade? But, I'm curious... have you consider selling it?

Just wanting to, to put it simply. I'm a retired S/W & H/W engineer and enjoy tech toys and can afford them. I've never had a problem finding something to do with them. Looking at trade-in as simple and hassle free.

Even if shipping is the only option... you could always opt for it be held to pick up by the courier. My preorder was mysteriously held for pick up.

The only trade-in options I get when creating my order involve shipping my old iPad in to whoever handles this for Apple. I’m not thrilled, and I would much prefer to drop off my old iPad so they can check it then and there, and I won’t later receive a lower price valuation.

Yeah, I have a store about 20 minutes away and would prefer the dropoff and pickup simultaneously and in-person.

After posting the above yesterday, I went to Apple's website to look at ordering a 512GB 12.9 and it said not available anywhere nearby here in Seattle, with delivery estimate of July 9-23. Later, I went to the Apple Store app on my iPad and it showed it as available for pickup today at the store 5 miles from my house. I have a pickup time scheduled for this afternoon.

I understand Apple reasoning to have in store stock available... to have store reps sell customers on potential accessories OR just to get store reps some work. But it constantly bugs me when I see a shipment of a product weeks away... when that product becomes available in stock on store shelves.

Yeah. Surprising though that the website and app were inconsistent in reporting store availability.

I received my IPP on 5/21. Last week I took my 2018 IPP into Apple for a trade in against my new iPad. I had paid for the new one with my Apple Card so they couldn’t give me a credit to that. How, they put the trade in value in my debit card and it went right in my bank. Fir me that worked out well.

I don’t see why not. They don’t cAre if you already set up a trade in online. I had run my ipad thru their online trade in people, but the store gave me the. Same amount.

An added plus. - I only. Traded in the ipad, but not the cord or charger. ? Didn’t affect the. $$ they. Gave me.

If they dont ship a box its expected to be done in the store.

They did ship a box but I took the iPad to the store with me they took the trade-in there. I tossed the box when it came.
