Just got my MacBook Pro! 15.4" with 2.4Ghz Proccessor.

A few questions..

Does anyones return key feel spongy and unresponsive when pressing it? Mine does..

How do I find out which model of screen mine has, and which is the 'bad' one?

My screen also noticeably dims when I rub my hand down the left speaker, why?!

And how do I tell if my screen isn't yellow on the bottom half?

Thanks!

That's normal. There are ambient light sensors under both speaker grills. If you don't want it to automatically adjust the screen brightness, you can turn that feature off in the Displays preference pane in System Preferences.

And how do I tell if my screen isn't yellow on the bottom half?

Look at it?

Ah, I see. I shall leave it on and see if it bothers me, otherwise that sounds quite helpful.

Also, what do F8, F9 and F10 actually do? I'm confused!

Without holding down FN, they turn the backlight on the keyboard off, down, and up. Try it in the dark.

Haha, amazing! I didn't realise they did that, I couldn't work out why they were there as it was locked when I tried it earlier! Now that it's darker, they work. :D

How do I use the ... WAIT! I was going to ask how I use the previous function of F9..I just hold down the fn key, hehe.

Any way to cool this laptop down at all? I can't touch it it's that hot (5 - 10 seconds is my max) on the bottom.

1. Fill bathtub with cold water.

2. Put ice in cold water.

3. Gently set MBP into ice water.

4. Cry, realizing what stupidity you just exhibited in the following of steps 1-3.

Seriously though, you can download a few programs that will kick the fans on a bit early. There are also a few threads about the thermal paste problem. Other than that, I can't tell ya. I'm no expert.

It's just worryingly hot. I'll see how I cope..

The Return key is a bit bodged up sadly.. and sorted it...somewhat.

Thank you for this info, klymr, I have tears from laughing laughing so hard ... :D

My mbp is extremely happy and much less hot since i got an ilap stand for it. Seems to really be able to draw the heat away since it's aluminum. I had another little plastic stand and it was really nice because it would swivel but once I got the ilap, BIG difference in heat issues. :p

Another couple of questions..

When in folders, how do I organise the files so that they appear fitted to the window and in alphabetical order instead of a mess?

And how do I change the icons that represent 'Macintosh HD' and the dock icons?

Near the top of the finder window there are three buttons. Looks like 4 squares, row of lines and three boxes. Click the one that looks like a row of lines. Then you cna arrange by name, date, size, type, etc

The 2nd question took me awhille to figure out. What you gotta do is download whatever icons you like. On the new icon you want, right click, get info and click the mini icon on the top left. Copy. Then open the orignal icon click the icon on the top left and paste. it should change.
