Questions to people with NAKED CD MBP's...

I'm thinking of buying a C2D MBP, but I like to try to retain the value of whatever electronic equipment I'm using by getting a case or some sort of wrap for it. I.E.: My iPod, has a Contour Showcase around it...Always...My PSP has a Logitech case around it, what can I say...I like to maintain the possibility of a high retail value.

So to those of you with naked MBP's right now, I'd like to know how long you've had it in your possession, and what, if any, tell-tale signs it is starting to show. Preferably, I'd like the opinion of students who carry their MBP's in their backpacks as that is likely what I will be doing.

I keep worrying if I should get an Invisible Shield for the MBP's body and some sort of screen protector to protect the glossy screen from the keyboard, and an iSkin ProTouch to protect the keyboard, but then I read threads about how durable the MBP's body is and, needless to say, I'm pretty confused. Do I need to protect this bad boy or not? Thanks!

Well, as long as you are careful and keep your hands clean, it shouldnt be that much of a problem.

Just get a nice case.

i've had mine since march, and its generally in a sleeve in my bag or on my desk. theres one ding on it because i was walking around the house with it and slipped, and it hit the coffee table, but other than that, its fantastic.

Ok, but if you didn't have the sleeve, how do you think it would have faired. Because I will quite likely not wanna get a sleeve to protect it in my bag, if it needs protection, when an Invisible Shield will do.

i would reccomend the sleeve over the shield. it just seems better. or do both. there seems to be more possibilities for damage if you have it in with your books, invisible shield or not. the sleeve just makes more sense to me.

It will get scrraaatched. Buy a case. (I have a PB, if you're wondering. Which as the same case as a MBP.)

Also, the case isn't all that tough so the possibilities of dents are high, lol. I didn't have it in a case when I pulled it out of my bag, it hit the side of the desk and now has a small dent on the corner. Not that it matters to me, I bought it to use it.

I don't really worry about scratches as much as I worry about dropping it and smashing it up, so I carry my MBP in a Brenthaven Professional series backpack when I'm not using it.

I use my macbook pro for law school and I take very good care of it. I use a marware protection pack to keep my wrist rest looking nice, and I keep my computer in an incase neoprene sleeve. One day when I took my computer out of my bag, which was in it's sleeve, which was in another internal sleeve inside my bag, I found a huge dent in the bottom left hand corner of my notebook. I don't know how it got there. No drops or anything of that nature occurred between putting my computer in the bag and taking it out. Regardless, I'm really glad I did have it in the two sleeves; I wouldn't want to know what it would have looked like had I not. Definitely buy a padded sleeve for your notebook if your going to be transporting it often.

You might like some of their sleeves, cases, messenger bags, and other stuff. I've found them to have the best protection for your laptop for your money.

However, the backpack I use is discontinued, but I found it on Amazon... you could try searching for it there.

You don't need to protect the LCD or keyboard, just the outside. So a sleeve is perfect.

I just use the regular old Incase ones that Apple sells. They work great.

Get A Sleeve

I have had my Powerbook 1.33 17" for about two and something years. For the first year I just carried it inside my backpack and there are dents on the corners, scratches on the edges and the little rubber feet are gone. After I bought a neoprene case the scratches have not been back and its never been so clean. ( You don't know what particles inside your backpack get stuck inside your laptop)

To this day I will never question buying that sleeve. I once got out of class to find out that a diet coke exploded inside my backpack. All my books were wet and the neoprene sleeve was SOAKED with coke, but my 17" was completely DRY

One of my buddies (at school) has a 3 year old Powerbook G4. He lugs the thing around daily to and from class, and has no special protection for it (aside from a sleeve in his backpack). I have yet to see a single blemish on the thing.

He/we do handle it pretty carefully, if not reverently, but it still sees what I would consider normal use.
